The Navajo and Pueblo peoples have lived in this region for millennia, and while European settlers have had the most significant impact on the New Mexico landscape, the cultural heritage of the regions first settlers is still extremely pronounced. Arts, architecture, the economy, even the State flag reflects the proud heritage of the areas indigenous peoples. As with its Native American population, the State is ranked fifth in the nation in overall landmass. While this massive an areas requires long roads to move residents from one part to another, the State is relatively sparsely populated, which relieves some of the overhead and risk of congestion. New Mexicans have taken steps to keep those roadways safe, by passing minimum auto insurance regulations:

  • Bodily injury per person: $25,000
  • Bodily injury for all persons: $50,000
  • Property damage coverage: $10,000
